The Fuwukari International Journal of Sociology and Development (FUWIJSD) was established in 2019 by the Department of Sociology, Federal University Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria, as a platform for the dissemination of high-quality scholarly research in Sociology, Development Studies, and related disciplines. The journal was founded with the vision of promoting intellectual discourse, advancing sociological knowledge, and providing evidence-based insights into contemporary social and developmental issues at local, national, and global levels.
At its inception in 2019, Professor Don John Omale served as the pioneer Editor-in-Chief, while Dr. Nnorom Kingsley Chukwuma served as the Associate Editor. Under their leadership, the journal successfully published one volume comprising two issues, laying a strong foundation for academic excellence and scholarly engagement.
In February 2022, a new editorial administration emerged with Professor Nnorom Kingsley Chukwuma assuming the position of Editor-in-Chief, while Dr. Odok Godwin Etta was appointed Managing Editor, with Dr. Kelly Opkamen as editorial Secretary and Mr. Agbor, Anthony as Marketing Editor. This period witnessed significant growth and consolidation of the journal's activities, resulting in the publication of two volumes and four issues. The editorial team strengthened the journal's peer-review process and expanded its academic reach, thereby enhancing its visibility within the scholarly community.
Subsequently, in October 2025, Professor Ameh Sunday Ojonugwa assumed as Editor-in-Chief, while Dr. Daniel Rosemary Onchi was appointed the role of Managing Editor with Dr. Saheed, Rahman Olanrewaju and Dr. John, Waji as Marketing Editor. Under this current leadership, the journal has continued its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and international visibility. Since October 2025, two volumes and three issues have been successfully published, further consolidating FUWIJSD's reputation as a credible outlet for scholarly research and intellectual exchange.
Today, FUWIJSD stands as a reputable open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed international journal, dedicated to fostering critical scholarship and contributing to the advancement of sociological and development knowledge across diverse contexts. The journal continues to attract contributions from academics, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from Nigeria and beyond, reflecting its growing influence in the global academic community.
